I hope Geno Schotte reads, as well as he writes letters (Letters to the editor, page 4, Sept. 11) to the SMDP editor. Then he would understand that shade is a delightful “extra” gift of the trees, but their most important gift is their ability to manufacture oxygen. I appreciate Mr. Schotte’s work in recruiting Critical Mass bikers, but we all have our own priorities. Mr. Rubin is also a dedicated worker for peace. As a Veteran for Peace, I can think of no more important priority than that, so I feel that Mr. Rubin is already a “true, principled, peaceful, stalwart member of the community.”
