Sun sets on Twilight Dance Series

By Daily Press staff

Summer is drawing to a close and, tonight, so is the weekly Thursday Twilight Dance Series.

The featured artist is Clarence Clemons, whose career spans three decades. Clemons is widely known for the distinctive saxophone sound that he has contributed to bands such as his own Red Bank Rockers, the Jerry Garcia Band, The Grateful Dead, and Ringo Starr’s All Starr Band. However, for the past 20 years he has been most widely revered as a star member of Bruce Spring-steen’s E Street Band, which some deem the greatest rock ’n’ roll band in the world.

The Temple of Soul, is the crowning achievement on Clem-ons’ long and distinguished list of accomplishments. A 12-piece metro-rock unit, Clemons leads the ensemble of musical talent through a labyrinth of dynamic songs. The result is a “communion of soulful sax, rocking guitar and spirited violin over a trinity of blues, jazz and classical influences. Once you experience the energy of Clarence Clemons Temple of Soul, it will revitalize your soul and bring you to the altar of belief in the power of rock and roll.”

The pop/R&B band Gravity will open the show. Gravity is a trio of vocals and keyboards; vocals and guitar and percussion.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Twilight Dance Series lineup is concluded by KCRW’s Next Up! on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m., which is a showcase of independent local artists, performers include Quincy, AM, Jesca Hoop and Blue-eyed Son. Admission is free.

Pier officials strongly recommend walking, biking or riding the Big Blue Bus to the concerts, as parking on is limited. A free shuttle is available from the 2030 Barnard Way lot south of the pier starting at 6 p.m. each Thursday.
