Scouts recruiting new members By Daily Press staff

Published:

Be prepared. Or, at least learn how to at the annual fall Boy Scouts open house. Troop 2 of Santa Monica is hosting its annual event to recruit new members this week. All boys who are currently enrolled in the fifth, sixth and seventh grades, are invited to attend. Troop 2, which has been operating in Santa Monica since 1947, is one of the oldest, largest and most active Boy Scout troops in the western United States. It is a non-sectarian, non-discriminatory organization, with a strong focus on outdoor recreation, leadership skills, first aid and emergency preparedness. The troop regularly participates in outdoor activities that include camping, hiking, canoeing and skiing.

The open house is planned as a fun evening for boys and their parents, filled with games, activities and information.

The event will be held in the gym at Lincoln Middle School, at the corner of 16th Street and California Avenue today, from 7:15 to 9 p.m. Admission to the event is free.
