WILSHIRE BOULEVARD — Sen. John Kerry is expected to arrive today at a hotel here, the second visit to Santa Monica from the presidential hopeful in two weeks.

Sen. Kerry will arrive at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel this evening for a fundraising dinner hosted by the Democratic National Committee. About 400 people are expected to attend the event, which is by invitation only. Tony Bennett is expected to perform at the dinner, which will reportedly raise millions of dollars for Kerry’s presidential campaign.

Sen. Kerry will talk to supporters about the choice voters face this November between what he characterizes as the Bush status quo and his plan to build a stronger America at home that is respected throughout the world.

After tonight’s event, Kerry will travel to San Francisco where on Friday, he will unveil his plan to create new consumer protections that will help working families keep the money they have earned and be able to get ahead.

Sen. Kerry stayed at the Miramar on Aug. 12 as part of his “Believe in America” tour, when he and vice president nominee John Edwards visited 22 states in two weeks as part of their presidential campaign. Sen. Kerry didn’t speak publicly while he was in Santa Monica, but did visit California State University Dominguez Hills to speak on economic policy.

President Bush held a fundraising dinner at Santa Monica Airport the same day Sen. Kerry visited Santa Monica, generating about $3 million for his campaign.

Sen. Kerry isn’t expected to make any public appearances while in Santa Monica today.
