Leading Los Angeles modern dancers will be performing at the third “Dance Mini-Festival” this Friday on the Santa Monica Pier.
The free special arts education event is part of the SMC Madison Performance Series and California Arts Day, a statewide celebration of the arts sponsored by the California Arts Council.
Featured performers are the acclaimed Lula Washington Dance Theater, whose style has been described as “explosive” by the New York Times. Lexi Pearl and Aaron Hendry, who combine fencing, stage combat and contemporary movement will perform, as well as SMC’s modern dance troupe, Synapse Dance Theater, under the direction of Linda Gold. The event will be at noon, Friday, Oct. 1.
The ongoing performance series is designed to bring attention to SMC’s plan to build a 541-seat performing arts hall at the historic Madison site in central Santa Monica. The theater will be a first-class, mid-size venue for arts and education programs on the Westside.
