SHOTS FIRED, from page 1 Shooter flees inSUV
MID CITY — Gunshots rang out here Wednesday afternoon, startling residents who live on the 1300 block of 15th Street. No one was injured.
Witnesses said a Hispanic male, who was walking backward, fired five shots shortly before 4:50 p.m. at two to three Hispanic males crouched behind a black luxury sedan in front of the Ocean View senior nursing home on the 1300 block of 15th Street, between Arizona Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard.
Witnesses said the shooter — described as in his mid-20s, five feet, 10 inches tall, 200 pounds, wearing a light colored shirt, jeans and a baseball cap — fled into a black Ford Explorer with tinted windows, driven by a black male, which headed northbound and disappeared.
The two to three Hispanic individuals who were the apparent target also fled the scene.
Santa Monica Police responding to the scene at 4:49 p.m. reported no injuries. The case is still under investigation.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the SMPD’s robbery/homicide unit at (310) 458-8451 or the watch commander’s office at (310) 458-8426.
Several residents — none of whom wanted to be identified — concerned over the gunshots, convened outside Ocean View. They said it is unusual for there to be gunfire in the neighborhood.
One of the witnesses said he has walking northbound on the westside of 15th Street when he heard the gunshots.
“I turned around, saw the guy with the gun,” he said. “It looked like an automatic. I hauled ass.”
