If you’re going to the movies tonight, scratch the $15 grade-B horror and come see a classic for free.
“Woman in the Dunes,” a 1964 Japanese film, will be the featured movie in Santa Monica College’s “Made Into Movies: Literature to Film” series at 6 p.m. today, April 29, in room 214 of the SMC art complex, 1900 Pico Blvd. Ample free parking is available.
The evening will begin with a scholarly introduction to the film, and the screening will be followed by a moderated discussion led by SMC cinema professor Josh Kanin and SMC English professor David Zehr. The film is the second of four films in the series, which combines scholarly insight with entertainment.
The last film in the series will be “The Taming of the Shrew” (1967) on Friday, June 3. The film series is co-sponsored by the SMC communication and English departments. Call (310) 434-4588 or (310) 434-4098.
