SMMUSD HEADQUARTERS District conducts homework survey

The Educational Services department with the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is currently asking parents to complete an online survey regarding the homework load their children receive.

The survey, which can be accessed at www.smmusd.org, was launched after school officials began receiving complaints from parents that their children were receiving either too little or too much homework. The Health and Safety District Advisory Committee had also expressed concerns about the disparity in the level of homework students in enrolled in the same courses receive. Some committee members pointed to the need for teachers to communicate with each other so they don’t overburden their students with assignments, cutting into their sleep time and ultimately affecting their learning experience.

The survey will continue through the end of April. For more information, contact the school district at (310) 450-8338.
