Letter: Reader praises SMDP's Q-Line and urges voters to scrutinize council

One of my favorite items in the SMDP is your weekly “Q-Line,” and I wish every paper had something like it. I also wish we could get our City Council members to read it. It is so much better then the “yes” and “no” polls because it states the reasons for the callers’ decisions. For example, the calls regarding the destruction of our ficus trees were overwhelmingly against this slaughter, and the callers showed a knowledge of the importance of these trees to our environment, something our council seems not to know, or not to care about.

And most recently the callers came out against LUCE, proving how it would be bad for Santa Monica. But is the council listening? Hell no! So our problem is not the economy — it’s our leaders, stupid! Let us hope our voters will study the past actions of our council members who are running again, and the promises of our new candidates, and finally elect a council that will honestly represent the people of Santa Monica.
