A picture of small-town Southern eccentricity comes to life with a group of gossipy and free advice giving Louisiana ladies in a beauty parlor where any woman who is “anybody” comes to have her hair done.

Sherry Coon, who previously directed “The Last Night of Ballyhoo” for the Santa Monica Theatre Guild at the Morgan-Wixson Theatre, is directing the play. “Steel Magnolias” opened on Broadway in 2005 with Delta Burke, Marsha Mason and Christine Ebersold. It also was made into a movie starring Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts.

“Steel Magnolias” opens March 10 at the Morgan-Wixson Theatre and continues through April 8 with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18 for general admission, $15 for seniors and students, with group discounts available and may be purchased by calling the theatre box office at (310) 828-7519.
