THIRD STREET PROMENADE It looks as if Christmas came early for Andy Waller. A fixture on the Third Street Promenade for well over a decade, Waller was on the verge of losing his shoe shine business as he was seriously behind in rent, owing City Hall more than $960.
DOWNTOWN — As the high season for shopping nears, Santa Monica officials are planning to test new ways to ease traffic congestion Downtown and make the gift hunting experience more pleasant for drivers and pedestrians who visit the city’s busiest commercial district.
Q: My friend was Christmas shopping last year near the Third Street Promenade. He thinks he was pick-pocketed as he couldn’t find his wallet when he finally decided to buy something.
THIRD STREET PROMENADE — He’s been a fixture here for more than a decade, but if Andy Waller doesn’t come up with $965 by Nov. 16, he and the shoe shine stand he operates will be gone, possibly for good.
BROADWAY — Extending the pedestrian friendly feel of the Third Street Promenade into surrounding parts of Downtown Santa Monica has been a longtime goal for planners and retailers alike.
THIRD STREET PROMENADE — If there seems to be an influx of movie industry types wearing official-looking badges walking around Downtown in the next few days, you’re right, But fear not that they are overrunning Santa Monica’s streets, because they’re bringing in some serious cash for the city.
The Third Street Promenade to me is a three-block long microcosm of the world. We have tourists from all over who come to enjoy the restaurants, shopping and free entertainment.
