Last week, I wrote about the horrific parking situation near the Third Street Promenade. Being a California boy, I’m not big on public transportation, we don’t have much of it, and what we do have is generally poorly thought out, and not very useful in a large sprawling city like Los Angeles.
DOWNTOWN — Something runs underneath Santa Monica. Something dark. Something that reaches into City Hall, into schools, into hospitals, into office buildings.
CITY HALL — The concept for a state-of-the art movie theater on Fourth Street is headed to the City Council for initial approval, following a unanimous sign-off on AMC Entertainment’s plans for the project by the Planning Commission Wednesday night.
CITYWIDE — Residents are constantly encouraged to donate to public schools, however it can be hard to write a check in the current economic climate. To account for this, the Santa Monica Malibu Education Foundation is giving people the chance to donate in another way — by having fun.
I’m scared. It’s been said that if you build it, they will come. But what wasn’t said was where they were going to park. In about three weeks, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom and a host of other retail stores are opening at the Santa Monica Place.

DOWNTOWN — In recent months, employees, shoppers and tourists have had more than just each other to contend with as they duel it out for parking spaces in Downtown Santa Monica structures.
CITYWIDE — Nearly one out of every 11 adults here smoke cigarettes, according to a report released this week by Los Angeles County health officials. The report, “Cigarette Smoking in Los Angeles County: Local Data to Inform Tobacco Policy,” found that 10.
THIRD STREET — All three movie theaters on the Third Street Promenade now have a single operator, since AMC Entertainment on Friday acquired the lease of the theater formerly known as the Mann Criterion 6, located near Arizona Avenue.

PROMENADE — The iPhone 4 does not come out until Thursday, but a group of five people has been camping outside of the Apple store at the Third Street Promenade since Saturday morning in anticipation of its release.
