SAMOHI — It was just one game, but it looks like Samohi baseball is ready for the Ocean League. The defending league champs got a gem of an outing from starting pitcher Adam Padilla and an offensive explosion in the fourth inning to dispatch Hawthorne, 9-0, at home.
Samohi catcher Lino Lares tags out Peninsula’s Beau Steinhauer on Thursday on campus. Samohi went on to lose the game, 9-6. The loss sends Samohi to 3-8 on the season.
SAMOHI — Head Coach James Hecht isn’t the only person who thinks Jordan Mathews is a heck of a basketball player. Apparently, the CIF-Southern Section’s coaches believe Santa Monica High School’s junior shooting guard is pretty special, too.
SAMOHI — Samohi’s victory over South Torrance featured a touch of the familiar and a good helping of new. The familiar was senior Adam Padilla, who threw a complete game, allowing just a lone run during Tuesday’s 3-1 win over South.
SMMUSD HDQTRS — At 9 a.m. Monday the Santa Monica-Malibu Education Foundation staff posted the registration form for its third annual Ed Ahead summer program, which gives students access to high school courses over the break between school years.
SMC — It seems that soccer is a popular sport at Santa Monica College these days. The school has resurrected its men’s soccer program after nearly 20 years of not taking the pitch.
SAMOHI — The soccer pitch became a blood bath Wednesday when the faculty and staff from Santa Monica College stomped on a team fielded by the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District in the third district-on-district match.

Add Oklahoma to the long list of suitors for Santa Monica High School junior wide receiver Sebastian LaRue. LaRue received the offer last week, adding Oklahoma to a group that includes Michigan, UCLA, Boise State and Arizona State.
Students at Santa Monica High School on Saturday won the Los Angeles Surf Bowl, a regional ocean science academic competition of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl.
