SAMOHI — The years on a dusty field, turning girls into ball players, have given Head Coach Debbie Skaggs a world of fulfillment, but there’s something missing.
SAMOHI — Santa Monica High School’s embarrassment of basketball riches continues to pour in. The California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section released its All-Division 1-A teams Monday and Samohi Vikings are well represented on both the girls and boys squads.
Cory Laguardia, a junior on St. Monica’s girls basketball team, has been named to the All-CIF-SS Division 5A second team. She helped lead the team to a 15-14 overall record as the Mariners advanced to the second round of the Division 5A playoffs before losing to Campbell Hall.
SAMOHI — The Vikings’ dream season really has legs. Santa Monica’s boys basketball team has capped a wildly successful playoff run with an armload of honors from both the Ocean League and California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section.
SAMOHI — The accolades keep coming in for Santa Monica High School’s girls basketball team. Fresh off winning the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Division 1A title, the Samohi Vikings dominated this year’s All-Ocean League team.
The Harvard-bound Luke Zelon just got a little help covering school expenses. The Samohi standout linebacker was honored early this month by the National Football Foundation’s Los Angeles chapter for both his performance on the gridiron and in the classroom.
• Crossroads baseball will travel to Viewpoint today. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Crossroads is 4-1 on the season. Viewpoint is a perfect 6-0.
MIRA COSTA — Sometimes a win is more than just a win. Santa Monica High School’s baseball team beat Mira Costa, 7-2, on the road in a non-league game on Wednesday, running its record to 2-4 on the season.
CULVER CITY — Lamont Ewell, Santa Monica’s former city manager who retired in January in order to spend more time with his family, has decided to return to work, at least temporarily, accepting a job as Culver City’s interim city manager.
