INGLEWOOD — Santa Monica High School’s baseball team remained in the hunt for an Ocean League title with a big 18-2 victory over Morningside on Tuesday afternoon.
NEW ROADS — A one-year absence from the playoffs has Head Coach Sean Brookes itching to return to the postseason. New Roads’ baseball coach has been with the team for 10 years with last season being the lone time his Jaguars have missed the playoffs.
SAMOHI — This season’s version of the Ocean League is a case of the haves and the have nots. Santa Monica, Culver City and Beverly Hills are log-jammed atop the standings at 3-1, while Inglewood, Hawthorne and Morningside are struggling at 1-3.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL INGLEWOOD — Apparently, the Samohi Vikings have at least one ace in their deck. Senior pitcher Alonzo Gonzalez struckout a season-high 15 batters against Inglewood on Thursday, giving Santa Monica High School’s baseball team a crucial 13-1 win in Ocean League play.
New Roads baseball and its impressive 10-4 record will travel to Harbor League rival Animo Leadership today at 3:15 p.m. The game will take place at Darby Park.
SAMOHI — Capping what was one of the best seasons in recent memory, Santa Monica’s boys basketball team held its end-of-season banquet last weekend to honor its own.
ST. MONICA — The season started with high expectations for St. Monica’s baseball team. The team had a number of starters returning and looked like a lock to challenge for a second consecutive Camino Real League title.
SAMOHI — When a baseball team struggles for runs, coaches everywhere begin considering changes. For the Santa Monica High School Vikings, that change may come in the form of small ball.
• St. Monica (9-8 overall, 3-4 in Camino Real League play) hosts league rival St. Bernard (6-10-1 overall, 1-5 in league) at Marine Park at 3 p.m. • Crossroads (7-7 overall) hosts Sierra Canyon (5-6 overall, 0-1 in Delphic League play) at Clover Park at 3:30 p.
People in high places are starting to take notice of New Roads’ baseball team. The latest California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Division 7 poll has them ranked third, which is a far cry from last season when the Jaguars finished 5-15.
Samohi’s baseball team will complete its season series with Ocean League rival Hawthorne today on the road. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m.
Santa Monica High School’ softball team, which is ranked sixth in the latest CIF-SS Division 4 poll, travels to Beverly Hills today in Ocean League action.
