I am writing in regards to the recent letters about the Santa Monica Rent Control Board. I am not dealing with the detailed discussions of previous writers dealing with financial etc. issues, but only in general support of the Rent Control Board. It is especially important in view of skyrocketing rents as vacancies occur.
The Rent Control Board is the public agency that supports the rights of the non-wealthy to continue to live in this lovely beachside community. It provides information and support to protect the rights of Santa Monica’s diverse renter population. It exists to ease the anxiety of renters about eviction and substandard conditions. It is well worth the monthly fees that are charged.
