Own property? Don’t forget about your 2005/2006 property taxes. Mark J. Saladino, Los Angeles County treasurer and tax collector, reminds property owners that the first installment of the 2005-2006 property taxes becomes delinquent if not paid by Monday, Dec. 12.
To avoid the assessment of late penalties, payments must be received by 5 p.m. or United States Postal Service (USPS) postmarked before midnight, Dec. 12.
“To avoid late penalties, taxpayers should not wait until the statutory deadline — please pay early,” Saladino said.
To ensure proper processing of payments, make checks payable to the Los Angeles County Tax Collector and include the appropriate first installment payment stub marked “1” along with your payment. Substitute bills can be obtained from the local assessor’s office. American Express, Master Card and Visa payments are accepted. No pre-registration is required. Property owners can call the toll-free telephone number (888) 473-0835. A service fee is charged by a third-party vendor to utilize the service. When property owners have completed the transaction, a confirmation number will be provided as verification of payment.
Additionally, a new service called “Vcheck” allows property owners to make their payments by going to the treasurer and tax collector’s Web site at http:ttax.co.la.ca.us, or the property tax web portal at lacountypropertytax.com. To pay online, taxpayers fill out an electronic check with select information that appears on their written check. Once a Vcheck payment is made online, the taxpayer will receive a confirmation page which they can print for their records.
To determine the amount due on any parcel, taxpayers may access the Web site at http:ttax.co.la.ca.us, or call the toll-free Los Angeles County property tax information line at (888) 807-2111, where automated information is available 24 hours a day.
Payments can be made in person at 225 North Hill St., first floor in Los Angeles between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Beginning Dec. 1 through Dec. 12, the treasurer and tax collector personnel also will receive payments at the Lancaster office. Payments must be made by check or money order. No cash payments can be accepted at that location. Taxpayers also may resolve tax problems and obtain substitute tax bills in addition to paying taxes.
Payments by check or money order can be made in person at 335A East Avenue K-6, Lancaster, Calif. 93535 between Dec. 1 and Dec. 12. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Capture a much-needed snapshot of the law
