‘Dear Wendy’ a film with no soul

Published:

Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier’s dissatisfaction with the American Way has been well documented throughout his films, most recently in a bitter pill called “Dogville.” “Dear Wendy,” which Von Triers penned for his pal Thomas Vinterberg (“The Celebration,” “It’s All About Love”), is yet another violent vilification of the Evil Empire.

“an audacious and stylish exploration of guns and violence in America,” — Billed as the movie instead plays like something a couple of disillusioned white teens with access to film equipment, vintage clothing and a boatload of weed might produce

“Dear Wendy” boasts unlikable characters, a plot that eschews logic and a barrage of ill-informed Anti-American pronouncements. The film is practically soulless. Audiences – especially stateside – will likely and justifiably hold this movie in the same esteem with which Lars von Triers appears to hold us. (Not rated. Running time: 104 minutes)
