The accident involving an elderly driver at the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market three years ago was a wake-up call for organizations to provide more options for seniors who can no longer safely drive, options like the Independent Transportation Network (ITN).
ITNSantaMonica will provide dignified transportation to those who no longer feel comfortable driving. This door-through-door and arm-through-arm transportation will be provided by both volunteer drivers and paid part-time drivers.
In order to provide this new transportation option to older adults, ITNSantaMonica is looking for cars in good condition which people are no longer driving. Individuals may donate cars either for a tax deduction or in exchange for transportation through ITNSantaMonica. For information, contact Ellen Blackman at 310-576-2550, extension 223.
