The tsunami memorial service planned for the Santa Monica Pier has been postponed due to bad weather.
The event, hosted by the Surf Academy, is now scheduled to take place next Saturday, Jan. 15, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The service is designed as a community gathering to share the grief for victims and survivors of the Dec. 26 tsunami that struck 11 countries in and around southeast Asia. It also will be a fundraiser for the Santa Monica Red Cross, UNICEF and Save the Children. The memorial is unique in that it will include talks from five different clergy members and will include a “paddle out.” People will paddle out to the end of the pier and sit on their boards in a circle formation.
