Robert Wilson's 'VOOM Portraits' arrive at Ace Gallery in Los Angeles

Published:

The Ace Gallery is the second stop of a global tour for ‘VOOM Portraits’ by Robert Wilson. Over the past two years, Robert Wilson has collaborated with VOOM HD Networks as an artist-in-residence to create the ‘VOOM Portraits’ - a reinterpretation of portraiture for the 21st century in high-definition video. The pieces seem at first glance to be traditional still portraits, until the sitter performs a simple, small movement — a blink or a tap of the foot — and the experience changes.

Wilson’s subjects include celebrated actors, writers, artists, dancers, royalty and everyday people. Among the subjects of the 36 portraits produced to date are Brad Pitt, Winona Ryder, Johnny Depp, Monaco’s Princess Caroline, a Sumo wrestler and an auto mechanic. The collection also includes animal portraits, including a South American horned frog, a Briard dog, a snow owl, a black panther and a porcupine.

The exhibit runs from Feb. 24 through April 21. The Ace Gallery is located at 5514 Wilshire Blvd., in Los Angeles. For more information about the gallery, visit www.acegallery.net For more information on the portraits or VOOM, visit www.voom.com.
