I wanted to commend you for printing articles about two women that have contributed so much to our community (July 31, page 1). Valerie Hiss took it upon herself to solve a problem that affects the quality of life in Santa Monica where the city has failed dog owners. I have seen doggie bag dispensers in my travels all over the world from New Zealand to Italy. With urban runoff and water quality such a critical issue, I cannot comprehend why Santa Monica has refused to embrace this relatively inexpensive program in the parks and on the Promenade.
As a South Bay native I know what a positive impact Mary Setterholm has had on the surfing community there. I’m glad she is also recognized in Santa Monica (SMDP, July 31, page 1).
