The Center for Healthy Aging is developing a new transportation program for older adults. The program, ITNSantaMonica, is a replication of a successful program in Maine. It is designed to ease the transition for an older adult from the driver’s seat to the passenger seat.
ITNSantaMonica will provide door-through-door and arm-through-arm transportation for older adults in Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades and Brentwood, and will enable persons who no longer drive to remain involved with their communities.
ITNSantaMonica is looking for persons interested in driving older adults in those areas. Volunteer drivers are people who enjoy the company of older people, and the opportunity to give something back to the community. Volunteers drive their own cars and determine their own hours. While a typical volunteer will drive for three hours, once a week, volunteers can drive as little as once a month or as frequently as three or four times a week.
