Cracks, holes and weird bumps. Those are only a few descriptions that make some Santa Monica sidewalks unsafe for pedestrians and bicyclists. Residents are invited to take action against the cement slabs and make them more “walkable” on July 28 at McKinley Elementary School, 2401 Santa Monica Blvd. The “Walkable Community Workshop” will inform community members about the ongoing issues around school neighborhoods, and also give them a chance to create and commit to solution for the problems.
The four-hour workshop will begin at 1 p.m. and include a presentation and group “walkabout” of the area surrounding McKinley Elementary School, led by Charles Gandy, who has applied the “Walkable Community Workshops” principles in communities throughout the United States.
