‘Well’ being: Senior health fest this week By Daily Press staff

Published:

“Aging well, living well” is the theme of the sixth annual County of Los Angeles Health Fair and Senior Festival, which will be held in Santa Monica this week.

Now in its sixth year, the event will provide free health screenings that include blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, gait and balance, body fat analysis, pulmonary function, bone testing and hand strength.

Also featured will be guest speakers covering issues such as the new Medicare cards, exercise, tai chi, and memory enhancement. One hundred booths providing materials covering a wide variety of aging issues also will be available.

“LA County has an obligation to provide the most up-to-date information to our burgeoning senior population” said LA County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky. “It makes sense to educate our constituents about how to cope with aging.”

The free, countywide event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 7, at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
