An Oscar-winning screenwriter has donated one of his works to breast cancer research. Erinys Productions — a San Francisco-based, all female theater company — will present the Los Angeles premiere of Anthony Minghella’s play “Whale Music” at The Hollywood Film Institute located at 1223 W. Olympic Blvd. from April 23 to May 9.
Shows will be held on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and at 3 p.m. on the last two Sundays.
“Whale Music,” written by Oscar-winner Anthony Minghella (“Cold Mountain,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” “The English Patient”) focuses on the lives of five women.
The friends journey to the Isle of Wight, England, to support Caroline — their pregnant and single friend — as she prepares to give her child up for adoption.
A special showing will be held on April 25. Following a 5 p.m. matinee, a silent auction will be held at 7 p.m. Among other paraphenalia, the auction will include a guitar autographed by rock group “3 Doors Down.”
The event also will include live music, paintings from local female artists and a cocktail reception.
Auction and show proceeds will benefit City of Hope Cancer Center’s lifesaving research, treatment and education programs for breast cancer and other diseases.
