Future engineers and scientists can learn more about their craft as Santa Monica College’s “Distinguished Scientists Lecture Series” continues in October.

“Swarm Engineering: Is There a Bot in Your Future?” is the title of the lecture on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Santa Monica College that will explore the creation of simple robots with simple behaviors.

The second in SMC’s Fall 2006 “Distinguished Scientists Lecture Series,” the talk will be held at 11:15 a.m. in Science Lecture Hall 145, 1900 Pico Blvd. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The speaker will be Dr. Sanza Kazadi, a scientist with Jisan Research Institute in Pasadena who has done extensive research and publishing on creating swarms of simple behavior-based robots. Kazadi, who received his Ph.D. from Caltech, has also presented papers at conferences throughout the United States.

The lecture series is sponsored by the SMC Physical Science and Life Science departments and the SMC Associates, a private organization that funds speakers and special events on campus. For information, call (310) 434-4303. Primers for the great outdoors
