OCEAN AVENUE — An unidentified woman was killed Friday morning after she was hit by a Big Blue Bus.

The Santa Monica Police Department responded at 7:56 a.m. to Ocean Avenue and Pico Boulevard, site of the accident.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the bus was driving westbound on Pico Boulevard and had stopped for a red light at Ocean Avenue. When the traffic signal for westbound traffic turned green, the bus waited for a pedestrian to cross Ocean Avenue to the west. After the pedestrian had crossed, the bus made a right turn and struck a different pedestrian.

The woman was transported to a local hospital and later died. Her name is being held pending notification of next of kin.

The bus driver was interviewed at the scene and was released pending further investigation. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
