A woman was found dead Tuesday on the bluffs near Palisades Park.
At about 12:30 p.m., Santa Monica police received a 9-1-1 call from a passerby who noticed the woman. She was found 20 to 30 feet below the park near Idaho and Ocean avenues on a small shelf surrounded by rugged terrain.
It is not known how long the woman, who was in her 20s or 30s, had been dead. However, police said the body had not started decomposing.
The woman, whose identity has-n’t been released, may have been homeless.
Los Angeles County Coroners arrived on scene at about 4:30 p.m. Unable to retrieve the body in the rugged terrain, the Santa Monica Fire Department was called. Firefighters lifted the body out of the area on a stretcher about 6 p.m.
Police are investigating the incident and awaiting the autopsy report from the coroner’s office to determine if there was foul play.
“We have no indication that it was a murder,” said SMPD spokesman Lt. Frank Fabrega. “There are no obvious signs.”
