Seniors: Get ready for a day to work your mind and body. Each year, the Santa Monica Family YMCA opens its door to non-members to introduce its senior fitness and health education programs and activities to the community. The event, entitled “2005 Community Senior Day,” is free.

Beginning at 8:30 a.m., a schedule of exercise classes begins. Classes range from Tai Chi to gentle water exercise, gym fitness to chair exercises and ballroom dancing.

Informational seminars covering nutrition, the effects of tanning, long-term care planning and senior financial services will be presented on the hour starting at 11 a.m. In addition, representatives from many of the community’s service organizations will be on hand as part of a resource fair. For those attending, there will be drawings for raffle prizes throughout the day. The day is geared so non-members can sample the YMCA’s older adult programs.

The 2005 Community Senior Day will take place on Thursday, June 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tours will be available. No advance sign-up is required. The YMCA is located at 1332 Sixth St., between Santa Monica Boulevard and Arizona Avenue. For more information, call Lidia Magarian, senior physical director, at (310) 393- 2721, ext. 109.
