There are thousands of children on the Westside who are starving. But with the help of the YWCA Santa Monica/Westside, about 2,000 underprivileged babies and toddlers will receive the nutrition they need. The YWCA will collect food donations to contribute to the Westside Food Bank.

The YWCA is accepting infant formula, all flavors and stages of baby food, infant and children’s cereals, all types of juices and food snacks, crackers, teething biscuits and cookies.

People can bring their donations to the YWCA Santa Monica/Westside, 2019 14th St., Monday through Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., or Saturday 8:30 a.m. to noon. Food will be collected until Sept. 30. Through the services of the Westside Food Bank, the food donation serves low-income families throughout the West Los Angeles whose babies and toddlers are in need of adequate nutrition.

For 75 years, the YWCA Santa Monica/Westside has provided community service programs to women and children in more than 10 Westside communities. Preserving its mission to empower women and to work to eliminate racism, the YWCA offers a housing and education program for young women emancipated from foster care.

The G.E.D./L.I.F.E. program combines evening high school diploma classes with a child literacy program. ENCORE is an exercise and support program for breast cancer survivors. The girls’ basketball program provides an organized opportunity for more than 400 girls annually to play basketball and stay involved. The YWCA’s Child Care Center provides a creative, safe and affordable environment for children ages 5 to 12. The newest program, Girls in Action (G.I.A.), is a comprehensive leadership program for girls attending John Adams Middle School in Santa Monica.
